Your fav subject?

That is hard to imagine : D Though I can say the same about myself, I didn't do a good job at school, not with important subjects.

I hope so too. I am a little afraid to buy more books at the moment though, I have about 30 or 40 brand new ones that I have to read :noo: Every time I come to the shelf to pick one to read I have hard time deciding which one I want xD

45 hours is a lot, are you going to have so many classes in one semester? O.o

=)

I am not into reading books >. < I usually find some interesting online lectures when I want to learn a course that isn't part of my academic curriculum :3

We usually get around 60 hours for every course during a semester >: D

I see. Good luck with your PHD.Clara might go for PHD too.

Would be awesome if she does =) Maybe we could run into each other at some conference one day : D

If only there was a good online lecture for every subject that I want to learn :whoosh2: When I see one I go for it, but it doesn't happen often. Just yesterday I was listening to a lecture and the professor wasn't really doing a good job explaining himself, and the quality of the video was so poor that I couldn't read the text on the black board... there were problems. On the other hand I just finished 35 hour long video lecture course on multivariate calculus, it was very enjoyable

I guess I am just used to a shorter format, I don't think I've ever taught a class where I had 60 hours : D Don't you get sick of seeing the face of the same professor for 60 hours in one semester? :P

That would be cool :D

You are from Russia. Isn't that right?

Yeah, I am =) I live in western part of the country. A little bit far from India, I guess =) It is a kind of funny, people who live in Moscow, our capital city, consider my hometown to be southern, - you know, too warm at Summer, not really cold at Winter. But you can't compare it with Indian cities, can you =) I remember I was quite surprised when Shaurya told me that snow is something people don't normally see over there :O

In South India, we don't get snows(atleast, not in my city......It is always hot here)..............In north India, especially in the Himalayas, people can see snow............North India is colder than the South in winter..........

I know -_- I am forced to read books too sometimes T.T Calculus? I've already forgotten all about it O.O My world have been revolving around computers for a while now :3

Nope. If the lecturer is really good the 60 hours pass in a flash which is often the case =) But yeah. Our Cryptography and Network Security lecturer isn't good at teaching and I try hard not to fall asleep during class >. < I guess you could say that I am sick of seeing his face :wth5:

I have no doubt people who live in Himalayas see snow =) Some of then do every day I suppose, a lot of the mountains are probably have their peaks covered with snow 365 days a year.

Aww, you shouldn't forget calculus >.< Though in computer science you probably use linear algebra and discrete math rather than analysis =)

xD By the way, that is another reason I like books. Sometimes the subject is kinda boring and the math is a bit too heavy, so I get drowsy reading the thing. Instead of forcing myself to pay attention sometimes I would just go to sleep for half an hour and then continue reading :3 Pity you can't do in a real class :sleepy:

Often it is 1 lecture a week, so about 16 lectures, 90 minutes each. When we calculate hours for some reason we count one lecture as 2 hours, that is a little confusing.

well.....maybe....... mechanics....or ...well.....i like things that they dont teach at school or college.........as per the subjects im currently stuck with......i 'd say my favourite would be engineering geology....:D

Snow is quite rare in India :D
Not to mention the temperature in here . But still that's the charm of this country and we are used to it :)

Yep, I wouldn't want all those beautiful flowers and plants that you have in your gardens to freeze ^^ Still, if I were to visit India I would probably try to do it at Winter, cause I don't know if I can survive the Summer heat over there : D I heard it is raining during Winter season, it would have been interesting to see what tropic rains are like =)

That's a great decision.Sudden changes in atmosphere and environment isn't good for a human body :)
I am surprised. You will find out about tropical rains soon enough .I want to go to a place with lots of snow too :D

But..but..computer science is more interesting  Yup. I completed my discrete math course last semester =_

I wish I could do that during my cryptography class. My lecturer would kill me though -_-

16 lectures :O How can you manage to complete your syllabus during that short duration?

@[Star_Of_Hope] Is it possible for the 'EXP' bar to reach 100% or is it asymptotic?

What does that bar even mean? =) It kinda looks like a count down till you get a new level (what those levels are for I don't know ^^').

I am not looking forward to see more snow, early autumn is way nicer =)

Well you can't compare them =) Calculus as a college course is just a very small thing, you can fit it into maybe 50-100 lectures (or one or two textbooks) and cover everything in as much detail as you want. Computer Science is more like a congregation of a dozen of technological fields, sciences and course sets. You probably can't cover everything in CS in 5 years =)
But still there are things that make Calculus interesting. Like, try to think what a gradient of a function means if you define the function in configuration space, or how you describe rotation of a vector in four dimensional Euclidean space :youarecool: I don't know, I like those kind of problems, they are more about understanding how things work than doing actual calculations ^^

I work out the syllabus in such way that I have enough time to finish everything. It is not like someone is telling me to squeeze an unreasonable amount if material into 16 lectures =)

@[Sindar] Yea.............Even I don't know what these 3 bars signify................Btw, from which website do you watch lectures regarding calculus and mechanics?

There are different places to go. At the moment I watch lectures on YouTube, for example here is a course on multivariate calculus by MIT. Single variable calculus by Penn university you can find on Coursera - here. Mechanics - depends on what exactly you want, introduction you can get on YouTube (here) or on edX (here), a little bit more advanced stuff you find - here and here and here. For hardcore mechanics go there I think.
