Great. Can a robot completely replace a human?
They already do in industrial environments. I don't think people will be standing behind the counters or driving lorries in 50 years from now. People will on average have more satisfying and well-paid jobs is what I think will happen.Nel said:Great. Can a robot completely replace a human?

Ah, but that has little to do with robots, that is an AI thing =) I think we will have human-like AI, but I don't know, not my field ^^/Nel said:I ask not talking about jobs. I am talking about emotions, decisions, thinking

It's a hard question I can say materials, tools and knowledge, but that will hardly be satisfactory. There is no way to give a meaningful answer in less than a couple dozen pages though I feel, so I won't attempt to. In principle, a robot is the same as any other machine, you just need to worry about how to control it a bit more.Nel said:Cool. I know I sound weird but I love robots and how they can move and do things that we want. I don't want them to replace humans but I would like to know more about them. To build a robot what do you need sindar?

Nel said:I am not dumb but I am no genius. Do you guys have any pre built machine for robots like wheels and such?
Sindar said:Of course we do : D I mean, we use 3d printing, machining and such, but we also buy parts whenever we can. If you are making a quadrotor for example, you can buy pretty much everything online, so if you aren't interested in improving the mechanical design you don't need to put much time into it.
Sindar said:Nah, 3d printers aren't expensive. I personally never operated one, no =)
Sindar said:Each printer works with specific type of plastic. You just buy filament compatible with your printer, that is all there is to it =)
Nel said:What id you need a part made of metal for your robot? How will get that from the 3d printer?
Sindar said:You make metal parts using some other methods =) Like machining or laser cutting.
Just about everywhere : D Every part that doesn't experience significant stresses or bending forces can be made out of plastic. You would usually use metal for frames, you can think about it as a skeleton of the robot. The rest should be made out of lighter materials where possible. Flying robots, for example, are build with as little metal as possible, even the frame can be made out of plastic (though not from the printed variety).Nel said:I thought robots are all about metal. Where do you use plastic parts then?
Flying robot seriously? I never saw one except for in movies.Sindar said:Just about everywhere : D Every part that doesn't experience significant stresses or bending forces can be made out of plastic.
