Crunchyroll Expresses Interest in Using AI Instead of People for Subtitling

To be honest I feel iffy about it. At least when it comes to any language that is not English I don't feel like the database is advanced enough to keep the intended meaning and navigate the cultural nuances between both language and appropriately bridge them with the translation.
 
more people losing their jobs.
but it's inevitable and we need to adapt and think of a new way to make a living
 
It wouldn't be bad for it to do the bulk of the work, but people still need to be doing it to ensure quality.
 
AI is getting better and better so it makes sense to me.
AI can translate most languages already.
I imagine its pretty accurate - But yeah final checks before release do need to be done. (i dont know Japanese, so would never be able to spot a mistakes :D)
People will lose jobs which will suck, but eventually all jobs will be automated by AI / Robots - but wont be for a while
Will be a rough time for these types of jobs over the next few years.
Anything to do with writing / reading / coding / speech

sometimes it doesn't understand but most of the time is accurate from what people said before.
i think it needs more time to reach the peak of accurate information

yeah the only way to to get it better is to use it more.
I imagine they are probably already using along with people and eventually it will be good enough to where you will need less people managing it.

It'll more than likely get rough for a lot of people, but AI systems will still need actual human input for coding and writing. It'll take time for it to fully replace everyone, if it happens. It's fully possible that AI robots will replace systems in Mcdonalds and other fast food places though.

people are afraid and we have too many movies about robots taking over the world.

It scares me too. I really don't want to see robots replacing humans in everyday tasks. There's so many new robots being developed and hitting the market. Tesla has some and a few companies to do, but I think we're still at least 5-10 years away from this happening.

Most definitely.
AI is already smarter than most people.
It learns at such a speed too, as long as we have the power to to maintain the AI's it will just keep getting better.
AI can literally replace everything and run everything on its own. (We are a really far away from this)
Currently we need to maintain it - but it can reach a point where it will be able to create whatever it wants.
As it will have the Knowledge that will keep expanding + with this knowledge if we create any AI robots - could literally create another ecosystem.
Just like the movies, once that happens it can literally create anything it learns, from objects to buildings, research science projects, further medicine etc
Some of this may already be used at a small scale, but can expand thousands of more times.
We as a species, know a lot, but in regards to energy / technology there is so much more to advance in.
Think i saw a video a while back describing how little we really know, which is crazy if you think about how much information we have about things.

that's really cool
sometimes it scares me a lot. if things go out of hand like in movies that could be end of our species lol. if ai can help us beyond living away from this solar system and have an infinite life for mankind, that would be really good

im in tech, so yeah, i often forget the downsides and only think of how it can help myself / people in the future.
What would be great is to not work. have Robots with AI do everything. its possible.
But with our current tech its no feasable right now and there is no scale to produce the AI or the robots.
would be too expensive, when these things become cheaper and cheaper, i think that is when you will see.
I doubt it will happen in my life, but yeah would be awesome to not have work most of your life so you can do other more meaningful stuff.
