Will we ever get back the freedoms taken away during the pandemic?

2020 was one of the worst years in the pretty much anybody under 25's life and the pandemic was one of the leading causes. Thanks to this we got ridiculous death tolls, complete or near economic collapses in many countries and some truly dystopian lockdowns and measures to implement them. Along with this we got waves and waves of disinformation and conspiracy theories among right wingers which really stuck home that a good chunk of humanity is too stupid to trust to act in the own and other's best interests.

Even though the worst of it is over in most countries, we still have curfews, vaccine passports and lockdown measures which since people have gotten unconsciously used to, are not being protested anymore. I know for a fact that Covid-19 is going to be around permanently because we will truly never get rid of them. What worries me is the governments will never really get rid of these measures fully using that excuse and left wingers will continue to support it no matter how long overdue it becomes.

The situation is improving now. Even there are chances of 3rd wave, but still the death rate has gone down drastically. We can only hope for the best for the future.

You missed the whole point of the post

No I'm Indian and I probably sound like that because of quoting western media talking points. Anyway I wouldn't have made this post if it was only affecting one or a handful of countries. Erosion of freedom like curfews, restricted travel, vaccine passports is a worldwide phenomenon. And everybody has gotten more used to it.

Tbh I haven’t given much thought for the people living in places where there are curfews and such.

There is still curfew here but the borders have reopened and most places were able to reopen. A lot of places however were forced to close their doors as financially they couldn't reopen. Many business have closed their doors, some forever and some temp but I feel for them. Life has become really difficult for everyone and freedom has a new definition if any I suppose. I am hopeful that once enough vaccinations have taken place Covid might be treated like other diseases which you have to be vaccinated for. It's still scary though that even when u are vaccinated you can still have the virus. I can't wait to be able to not have to wear masks wherever I go. I am asthmatic and it affects me so much right now. Schools are even being reopened here with lower classes having to wear masks and only be out once per week. I honestly don't see the point because these are children aged 5 - 10. How are they supposed to stay with masks for the entire day and how is it posibble to keep them from touching their face and not interact with each other.
To answer your question I don't think freedom will ever have the same meaning again at least not here and not for a long while..sighhss
