Why is dragonball so popular?

The reason why it's so popular is mainly for nostalgic reasons. See, Dragonball Z was actually the first anime I ever watched, I didn't start with Dragonball. Anyways it was the reason why I started getting into anime, like many fans who grew up in the 90's/00's. Plus my favorite gaming franchise pays homage to Dragonball Z too, so even the creators who worked on Sonic the Hedgehog liked the series so much, they based Super Sonic obviously off of the super sayan rank from the series.

i always thought it's because of the first anime popularity title. everyone's first anime they have know is dragon ball and they want to keep on liking it.
