Having run both a free-software platform and a paid-software platform, I will tell everybody that yes, free software does often have security measures available, but, paid software's options are superior.
When I ran SMF, I had to implement four different add-on's, and it still wasn't enough to catch some of the SPAM/SCAM. Now that I run XenForo, I'm still using the default options out of the box, and so far, I haven't needed anything more powerful.

Can confirm I get more spam bots joining my forums that are powered by free forum software, Woltlab which is paid software does a good job weeding out the spammers. As for the original post yikes lol. I thought he was calling himself stupid and immature haha.

Sometimes the spammers use a certain VPN zone as well. Which can blocked by a firewall and they tends to stop them in their tracks. They usually also use throwaway emails.

Doing what? Editing posts of spammers? That is completely immoral. If you destroy the evidence of a crime, you can no longer punish the criminal.
