When did you get on the internet for the first time? Was it when you got internet connection in your house or did you use somewhere else (a friend's house, a public place etc.)?

I was about 9 or 10 when I used the internet for the first time. I actually used it at my parents house.

Back then, dial up was the only thing around.

I don't even remember if I tried first at home or at school. Haha.
I know I remember clearly when it was installed and my parents were concerned and fascinated. We'd start at google.com and from there we could go anywhere. Finding my first Zelda website and learning about forums didn't take long. Hahah.

I used the internet for the first time in 1995. I was at my cousin's house, they had a computer. I was five years old so they had to type in the links to Nickelodeon which was the only website I was allowed to visit at the time.

Oh geez! Um... 1995? Like August? I had just gotten out of Basic training and technical school training. The Internet was kinda new back then. We'd use Netscape and Lycos, Yahoo, and, I think there was another search engine before Google, but I don't remember it. All the web pages were static. People's recipes, research articles... and then there was AOL. I found their Chat feature, and within one month had a bill of over $600! Back in the day of Usenet and Newsreaders to get world news and chat with people from around the world!

What was it like using usenet? I remember the aol dialup days, but I don’t miss them🤣

It wasn’t fun managing websites with it, but i still managed to do it. The internet sure has changed a lot since then. Forums were simply guest books back then as well in some form.

I will say this, although it was fun chatting with people from all over the world, you really had to double check everything you accessed. There be porn everywhere, matey! That's how we used to get our music for free too. Multipart attachments of .WAV files. LMAO! Then you'd have to string them all together again, and hope to Goddess that you didn't corrupt one of the files in the process, because it took like an hour to download just one song! (At least, it felt like it did.) 2400 bps modems were State-of-the-Art when I was on. I remember when 14.4K came out.

And AOL. Reminds me of a time I was talking to a girlfriend living in Cleveland, while I was in St. Louis. There was a hacker on, and he/she/whatever got her credentials. Managed to reboot my computer while I was typing to tech support chat, in the middle of a conversation. Fun days, they were.

hmm think it was like 2005 for me.
As before that where i was from we didnt have internet in the house.
i imagine it was available but family just didnt get it earlier than that.
But i remember them having it around 2007 or so as i moved and we used skype to call each other.
