i don't get why people publish books with their own money even when a publishing company wants to publish them. i never got why they do that

Elvis said:Because it's easier if you don't want to get a lot of rejection letters from various publishing houses. If you self-publish your book, there's less time wasted, there's a lot less frustration with negotiating the contract and other details about the book etc.
Many publishing companies reject books at random, according to the mood that the guy who reads the manuscript is in that day. Example: the first Harry Potter book was rejected by several publishing companies before J. K. Rowling found a company that accepted her manuscript.

I was going to include JK Rowling's example but Elvis already mentioned it.
Angel said:i didn't think like that and publishing needs more money and not everyone could afford that. publishing companies can bare loses but not a person who gets to self publishing with their own money
Angel said:but how would they get anything in return for their work? if someone should make this a living, they need get some money back to get on with their life. i don't think internet download would be of any use.
Angel said:i get that it's not a very good choice as a profession but its not entirely bad and the method you said would take an entire decade and if it doesn't add up, that write would be royally fuked.
Angel said:i didn't think many people would start it as a side job first. it takes confidence and not anyone could get it, unless they have major hits and support.
Angel said:you really think i am trying to write one and get it published? for the life of me, i can't write sh#t but i know someone who is trying to be a writer. i broke up with him but at the time i posted this, i was under an impression that he is my man.
