Nameless said:I agree for the popular ones. I found kuroko no basket after haikyuu. But I saw some take bad recommendations too.
I searched for the farm recommendations of gin no sagi and I found natsunr yujincho which is about ghosts or weird characters.
MadaraUchiha said:I looked it up and Natsume Yuujinchou was recommended by two people. You don't need to take it seriously when the numbers are low. You do know that you can see the number of people who've recommended the same thing, right?
I don't look at recommendations, I choose anime on my own, but usually anime recommended by a lot of anime do look or feel similar.

Star_Of_Hope said:Well, I know that it's not possible but it would be great, if we have some sort of validator to check the anime before adding it to the recommendations list.
It can be manual too but it's just not possible.
Nameless said:I never noticed that man.
I didn't think we could see how many people recommended an anime. I like to see recommendations to see a similar anime.
Nameless said:Many recommendations aren't good in Mal. People recommend anime even if they feel a particular background is similar to other anime.
I don't trust recommendations much. Do you trust them?
MadaraUchiha said:Recommendations by nature are very personal, subjective or opinionated and one may have various reasons and justifications to make one so I don't think it'd be right to do that.
Yes but people not only recommend similar stuff, but also works made by the same director, studio, etc. That's why you MAL asks you to state reasons for why you recommended it, which you can read. I hope you know that's also a feature.
A valid point. When people look for similar anime, they always search for the ''feel" of that other anime.BurnsyCEO said:Recommendations might miss the point entirely of why you liked the original show. Like people after watching naruto might ask for an "anime like it" with ninjas and stuff when what they liked was the shounen action formula. So if I recommend something which has ninjas and is in a completely different genere they'll just drop it instantly.

Star_Of_Hope said:I agree but it would have been great if we could get more quality recommendations.
I tried searching for a strong female lead sometime before but not many anime, recommended to me are worth watching.
Nameless said:I never used it much. I only use it to get the summary and information of an anime man.
I should visit it more often and explore.
MadaraUchiha said:Well you are welcome.
I mean there are lots of anime with strong female leads out there but at the end of the day the definition of what a strong female lead is for you also matters. If one has a skewed version then no matter what the recommendations are it won't matter.
I for one don't really use it to watch anime, I use a combination of things: popularity in MAL, the staff of previous works I've seen, and the studio.
It's a useful website but it's not a hard and fast rule to use only MAL for recommendations.
Nameless said:Mal is anime and anime is Mal, man. It's been like that for a decade. It's hard to break off a rule like that.
I use it for everything
MadaraUchiha said:I don't really recommend using it for recent anime and sequels. Due to the biases of their namesakes.
Sequels will obviously have higher scores because the ones who are gonna watch it are the fans, and recent anime tend to have higher scores because of recency bias.
Nameless said:I never thought the sequels would have higher score man but it makes sense. Only people who liked the sequel would want to watch a sequel .
Ratings if made in abyss aren't bad and they are recent anime.
MadaraUchiha said:It's unusually high. I did say recent anime that are good tend to have higher scores.
Made in Abyss is I think in the top 50 or 75 in terms of ratings.
Nameless said:I agree but made in abyss can still be called as a recent anime man. I don't consider only ongoing anime as recent anime.
I haven't noticed the place of these anime
MadaraUchiha said:I never said Made in Abyss wasn't a recent anime.
