Oscars 2018

So, how many of you are interested in the Oscars? I love movies and I follow the awards season(October to December) pretty closely(rather I've been doing it for the past 2 years). As for this year's winners/nominees, I haven't really watched any of them, except Dunkirk, Blade Runner 2049 and Get Out. I loved Dunkirk and Blade Runner 2049, and I kinda liked Get out. I am planning to watch Shape of Water, which is the best picture winner, along with Three Billboards and Call Me by your Name.

I honestly don't care, I've never been a movie watcher.
And seeing the revelations about Hollywood of going from one scandal to the other (paedophillia with the entire US elite knowing about it for 30+ years, NSA/CIA/FBI modifying movies since the very establishment of Hollywood for propaganda purposes, etc.), I've lost my faith in Holyweed-made movies entirely.

Is the new blade runner any good? I remember watching the original one a while back and i was pretty excited for it but i haven't got around to watching it yet.

You should make a list of movies most worth watching each year.

I'll probably make one after I watch some of the movies that won or got nominated.

I thought it was completely amazing from start to finish. One of the best-looking movies I've ever seen, with incredible visuals. Depending on your tastes and preferences, you may find it to be a bit slow. Here's a review I made:

i am not. only occasionally i watch movies and these awards doesn't do justice most of the time

I see, I agree. Every year there's a lot of snubs, but this year, everything that was projected to win actually won.

True, not denying that. I kept seeing article after article with women coming forward accusing a lot of people of committing sexual harassment. But, there's still a lot of great movies out there, so even though I'm in India, I still watch a lot of movies made in Hollywood.

The Oscars almost always give awards and nominations to small and independent films.

Usually these movies got something to offer. A meaning or some different idea or some decent message.
I usually pick movies that win awards to watch. Still I am not usually execited for these type of award ceremonies

I really liked the original and the slow place and style of it so it sounds like they kept it similar, I'll have to watch it when I get some time.

It took one more viewing for me to really like the original. I re-watched it before watching this new one, and I liked it even more. Although be warned, this new one is like really long(almost 3 hours).

I never bother to watch it since a lot of it is drawn out, though I do check out the winners list after its done. Shame anime never gets a mention or chance.

Even stuff like Spirited Away and The Wind Rises which won/got nominated were distributed by Disney. Animation is one department where the Oscars have failed miserably.

indeed, animation can be just as good as any live action movie if enough heart and creativity is put into it.

It has a separate category alright but the problem is the Academy doesn't give a shit about it, and that's why crap like Brave wins, and Wolf Children doesn't even get nominated, or mediocrity like Frozen wins(though it has animation that's beyond amazing but the story is sub-par and is a far-cry from Tangled, IMO, which wasn't even nominated) over The Wind Rises.

I heard that the people who give their votes for animated just put the names of whatever their grandchildren have watched.
