THIS IS ABSOLUTELY 1000% CONFIRMED now that it is a sequel and not a remake. The major hint was there at episode 2 but this episode went completely off the rails and into uncharted territory which has nothing in common with the original starting from the door scene and I have zero idea what to expect next. Rena was actually crazy this time. I expected a needle in an onigiri but instead we got a fucking bonesaw.

Considering how convoluted the plot of the original got (which I barely remember) and I had dropped higurashi somewhere in the kai or rei arc my knowledge of the over arcing story is just vague tidbits after this. For this reason I think I need to get myself refreshed on the story from wikipedia before watching the next episode. If any new people want to watch higurshi make sure you tell them to watch the original including kai, rei and kira and then this.
