Tbh you’d be surprised. You see it with AAA video games all the time where it gets perfect scores out the box, and next thing you know, everyone says it’s trash.

Then you look at the points they all state and see what lines up or not. You can't look at the whole thing, just what common points they make.

You can completely 180 on making the same exact points without making anything up. You can look at reviews and comments on Windwaker and Final Fantasy IX from several years ago talking about how the cartoon style graphics were ugly, jarring, and ruins immersion etc. Now everyone talks up how amazing said graphics are, and the cartoon nature is the best part.
There’s times when it’s trendy to like or hate certain styles. Like the 90’s movies and shows that were acclaimed at the time had to have either irony or gross out humor, or both, and now people will criticize some of those same things for having either of them. So you can’t always trust common points if they all jump ship with a 180 several years later.
You also see reviewers get in trouble for not following trends with their reviews. People will try and cancel a reviewer for being that one negative reviewer. Who’s actually right here? The positive reviewers copy and pasting their reviews, or the negative reviews copy and pasting their reviews? It’s all for clicks anyway.

I don't get what's there to trust. Unlike gaming or films there isn't really a centralised media critic aggregator. The closest we have is MAL which is based on user scores. Films or anime aren't really screened early to the press like film or games or even TV shows. What review am I supposed to read anyway? With anime all I do is see whether I find a show interesting, watch 1-3 episodes and decide whether I wanna continue.
