The human body can get energy from two sources: fat and carbohydrates. Normally fat can't pass the blood-brain barrier and carbs can, however, if you don't have enough carbs, your body will start making ketogenic bodies after ~3 days (which get very easily broken down if you even eat a decent-sized portion of carbs just once, and then it's waiting 3 days again), which will allow fat to do so. Basically, ketogenic diet regulates your body to consume its own fat.

ETA: high fat relevant to what else you consume, of course.

what would happen if i were a vegan?
