Did Anime make you want to learn Japanese?

I am sure most of the people would want to learn Japanese after watching anime. Is it the same for you guys?

Seems like most anime fans that learn Japanese don’t do more than learn random words and just throw it into their sentences for no reason but to show off.

No. It's super hard and unless I have to literally live in japan I wouldn't bother for any such trivial reason.

lol we are just obsessed with the language
but it's not easy to learn it and we have to prove that we know a few things from anime grungie.

You don’t have to “prove” anything.

that's because you already know the language grungie
but for us we wanted to let others know that we got to know of those few things from it.

There’s better ways to do it than looking like an idiot going “konnichiwa minnasan, I’m having a sugoi day today”.

Nobody but weabs talk like that.

You’re also basically further proving my point it’s for showing off purposes by bringing up how you have to “prove” it, and letting people know.

lol i think that's totally cool for a guy who doesn't know japanese to be able to use those words
and it's not showing off but they are just happy lol

It’s definitely showing off, it’s never from people who put time into actually learning anything. It’s always “I learned a couple words from watching anime, let me just sprinkle it into my sentences for my friends who also watch anime”. Hence showing off.

There’s no other discernible reason to sprinkle random words into your sentences. If you wanna practice, there are communities and resources to give you actual practice on language learning skills.

My weeb self chose Japanese as the foreign language when it was a course in one of my college years.

How’s that go?

I've tried learning bits on apps like Duolingo and some textbooks. Mainly because i would like to go to japan on holiday and would like to maybe hold some sort of conversation and be able to buy things and order without sounding like an idiot going "English?" everywhere i go

Not bad it was a lot of fun, I got good grades and fortunately I had company too but I forgot everything I learnt.

It's certainly made me think it would be nice to know, but it's never motivated me enough to ever actually try and learn it. I dont think I'd have much luck even if I tried.

It's not really that hard to learn another language, it's mostly based on your drive. If they teach foreign languages in elementary schools, an adult can do it.

It's just that Japanese is kind of a "useless" language for a lack of a better description. It's a language that's only used in a single country, so unless you're doing business or something in Japan or with Japanese people, there isn't really much of a point outside of "it's fun".

The reason why most weabs don't really do much with learning it is because:
A: it takes effort
B: "I want to watch anime without subs" isn't that motivating for the vast majority of people.

I took it in college to learn how to read it, and most of the people doing it for weab reasons didn't last long because of those two factors.

No I learned Japanese by watching anime and kung fu movies but it was so I could talk to the IT guys in Japan for network engineering.

i would want to visit it too someday and i would want someone to pay me that cost back lol
