The only reasons why Made in Abyss became popular in the first place WAS because of the hand scene Clara. The way it was realistically directed, the methodical nature of it, the blood, the infection, the screaming, the crying, Riko pissing herself, it was done to perfection.
You need to realise that you are the only 25 year old woman who can't digest gore while watching anime. Everyone else doesn't mind it. You are the exception here.

The anime is great no doubt but every anime has that one scene that makes people convince others to watch it and this is one of them, and of course, the first three episodes are excellent no doubt about that.
