People have been saying this for ages for all media. Usually popular stuff is cookie cutter and by the book no matter the era. If you stick to just the popular stuff, or just one genre, of course it's going to get repetitive.

There are many restrictions now on the media when compared to the old days. Getting permissions is a lot stricter than you imagine and things change man.

Maybe there's a reason why I prefer the anime from the 90s and early 2000s.

That, and the comedy was more risque. I think many people are just too easily offended these days.
