Spoilers Ahead for YuYu Hakusho!

So I finished the first 25 episodes of YYH and found out that the first 25 episodes entail the first season, named Spirit Detective Saga. I thought I'd post a thread about it. I watched the English dub of the anime. I got a dual audio collection, and when I switched between the English and Japanese version, I found the Japanese version to be bland, and Yusuke's voice itself was inferior compared to the dub, which was a lot sharper, and made everyone sound more badass. Plus when I scoured the internet I found that majority of the fans preferred the dub, and I'm happy I chose it.

The first episode is one of the best I've seen in any anime, Samurai Champloo's pilot is the only one I like more probably. It did a great job of making me empathise with everyone, especially Yusuke, even though I didn't know any of them. And the comedy in the anime is on-point, especially in the first arc(that is the ordeal of Yusuke coming back alive). It's probably due to the dub, but this is probably the funniest battle shonen anime I've seen apart from One Piece(pre-time-skip at least).
The second arc is sort of a mini-tournament arc, and it's also good, though the constant fights one after the other started to become a bit tiring, but the way each one opponent was defeated by Yusuke and Kuwabara was a bit clever. I only wish they left a bit of a break between this and the Maze Castle arc, it felt like nothing but fighting. However, the Maze castle arc was my favourite arc, with it being a ticking time bomb. Both the events happening on the castle, as well as Botan and Keiko being chased on Earth were exciting. My favourite fight from the arc is probably Kurama vs Genbu, it wasn't too long or too short, and it was suitably entertaining. My least favourite arc is the Yukina Rescue arc, it was anti-climactic all the way through, with each fight being unexciting, including the final one vs Togura. And honestly Kuwabara's crush on Yukina was creepy. I don't have any opinion on the Artifact arc, other than that it fortunately didn't drag too long and finished everything quickly, and was pretty entertaining.

The OP and ED are good, but nothing special. The animation in the OP is great, and the animation throughout these 25 episodes held up incredibly well, especially for a 25 year old anime. Fight scenes don't use still frames unlike recent anime and are animated well. This honestly looks far better than the recent trash anime that is Black Clover Studio Perriot put out recently.

Anyway, what do you think of this first saga?

I liked it and I still think it has a great opening episode. If I am not wrong, you would enjoy the battle tournament more. Have you watched the entire series before?

No watching it for the first time. I've only finished 25 episodes so far. I'm taking a break from this to watch another series( a small 13 episode one) and will come back to it after that. I can't binge watch long series altogether at once, I tend to get bored easily.

At least you picked it up man. That is great. If you enjoy it then it shouldn't matter how you watch it. I liked that series a lot. It's a classic like inuyasha. Did you watch that one?

No InuYasha is like 200 episodes and I plan to watch the previous works of the author who wrote InuYasha first, like Urusei Yatsura and Ranma 1/2 before watching it. But it'll be a long, long time before I do that.

You are missing out too many classics man. I would suggest you to watch the very famous ones first but you probably have your own way of watching things and I wouldn't meddle

Don't think so. I'm not even all that interested to watch InuYasha. I'm more interested in stuff like Cowboy Bebop, Gurren Lagann, Toradora, etc.

It's a very long anime, and I have other long anime I plan to watch first, like Soul Eater, Eureka Seven, Dragon Ball Series, Bleach, etc.

Again I'm quite surprised how much you're enjoying the earliest episodes. Things only get way better from now on. You made it to the toguro brothers and SPOILER THEY'RE NOT DEAD and this the prelude to first long arc of the series the dark tournament which I really think you should finish watching before taking a break.

I watched it in dub too because it was on animax. Wouldn't watch it any other way now just like every other childhood show.

Toonami needs to reair this series, I haven't watched it since the mid 2000s and I've forgotten a lot of the stuff. But I know its pretty good.

They missed their chance with the 25th anniversary, but oh well they are adding new series left and right though.
