people don't want to invest too much time be it anime or k drama or live action lol
I think K drama is thriving and so is some of the anime.
You could see lots of merchandise for them.

people would still think something is popular if the marketing hypes it up
They will end up in huge losses if they were to opt for merchandise without actually considering the show's popularity.
I don't think hype alone is enough.
