So a month has passed since the start of Winter 2019. Right now I'm watching 12 on-going anime, 2 of which are One Piece and Boruto, both not from either Fall 2018 or Winter 2019 so I'm gonna ignore them. One great thing about this season is that all the OP's and ED's are very good. What are your impressions on this season?
Boogiepop wa Warawanai: This is pretty weird for me. It seems interesting conceptually and at certain moments definitely is entertaining but for the most part it's rather bland and sometimes even confusing, with the narrative being non-linear along with multiple POV's. Also doesn't help that the voice-acting is pretty flat most of the times, and the animation itself is like slightly below-par, with a lot of still-frames(which seemed calculated at first to me but I'm not convinced now). Shame because the OP and especially the ED are good. I may drop it after the current arc gets over, but episodes 9-12 are gonna be airing on the same day on Feb 22/23 and if I hear great things about it I'll probably pick it back up again.
Dororo: I love this anime. It's so atmospheric, and the dialogues are also minimal and it relies quite a bit on visual story-telling. This is in my opinion perfect for watching weekly because while there's an over-arching narrative the structure of the anime itself is episodic. Also animation is great, with a lot of body-horror(not on the level of JoJo Parts 1 or 2), along with a great OP and ED.
Kaguya-sama Love is War: This is basically High School Rom-Com Death Note. Kaguya and Miyuki are geniuses and the President and Vice President in their school Student Council. Virtually everyone admires them. The two are in love with each other but neither want to confess first, since they don't want to appear weak and tries to make the other confess. This may seem stupid but the anime is damn clever and entertaining and pretty funny, and the way it's directed is actually a lot reminiscent of Monogatari(a lot of Shaft's staff are actually working on this anime). The OP is catchy and funky, and then there's also the great ED about which I created a thread recently. Give this anime a try for sure, maybe the first 3 episodes and see if you like it.
Mob Psycho 100 Season 2: Already anime of the year for me. There's just no way anything else is beating this. Every episode has been brilliant and it's only getting better. Episode 5, released yesterday is probably gonna be a contender for the best animated episode of the year, unless the anime itself releases another episode topping it. Kickass OP as well.
The Rising of Shield Hero: If you are either sick of Isekai or if you wanna get into it, last season there was That Time Reincarnated as a Slime, and now we have this anime. It's a bit different from others because while people who get transported to another world do get some kind of opposition, we haven't really had an anime in which everyone turns on the hero. So this is basically a guy starting from ground zero with the entire population hating on him. I noticed this in the latest episode but sometimes it's just infuriating to watch this anime because of how our guy gets treated and apparently that's how it's gonna be. The anime is damn entertaining, and while the animation itself is fine I feel like the anime looks a bit washed out. Pretty good OP and ED.
The Promised Neverland: This may sound odd to a lot of people because everyone here loves this anime, but I am a bit conflicted on it. I think it's very good, with probably the best character animation of the season, but it's just that I always feel like there's this constant lack of suspense and tension that makes it less hooking than it should be. But it's still damn entertaining, with a good OP and ED.
Also from last season(Fall 2018) Run with the Wind and That Time and Re-incarnated as a Slime are on-going and both of them are worth watching.
