Why the protagonist in harem anime are usually normal-looking?

do you think it's for the people who think they have normal looks? or do you think its because such people, deserve beauties in general?
what would you say?

If you make them more average, it makes them easier for the audience to relate to. If you make a harem starring a super pretty boy, or he looks like Jotaro, that makes it harder.

not everyone can be pretty and not beautiful girls would always fall for an average boy too.
