Why refuse to watch an anime due to its fanbase?

I am sure some people wouldn't want to watch anime because of it's fanbase.

Basically this. If a fandom is really off putting, it makes you less interested as well.

well, sometimes it gets on your nerves
and you wouldn't want to watch it to avoid those annoying fanbase and their statements. that's how it is for me.
