Why is yaoi more popular than yuri ?

He is just giving you the information, how it is.
Back in YO we made MAL our standard but not the case here.

I use it to keep track of seasonal stuff and update my list that's it. It's just easier to use one website. I stopped rating anime because it's useless. A lot of older anime I gave a 7 are more of a 5/6 because of the stupid "7 is the average score" thing that was hardwired into my brain.

The score thing is an issue because I've noticed that most original shows tend to get a lower rating than adaptations, even the good ones. Plus the scores for most shows of the last 5 years haven't been all that negative unless it's a stereotypical harem/isekai(recency bias and the whole shebang). And it's basically useless for sequels because they tend to get a higher rating because most people who bother watching it are anyway fans of the show.

I do find it useful to find somewhat popular shows before 2012. I've discovered a lot of stuff I wouldn't have found otherwise because of the "Most popular anime" chart because it's kind of an objective metric unlike a review score.

I can see that for older shows, if people are still talking about it, it should be pretty good. 2012 is probably a good year, because it’s before the current anime boom, so anything that wasn’t shown on regular TV outside of Japan was watched by a smaller community with a more “consistent” opinion.

i really want to say yaoi is more popular because i like it lol
but now i wonder just how many anime are there that are not yet listed in mal.
