Why does tragic endings don't gain popularity?

Not really, Code Geass, Death Note all have not-so-happy endings and they are pretty popular. Are you talking about tragedy as a genre or specifically about tragic endings?

I agree with Madarauchiha.
Death note got a sad ending man. Main protagonist died and even though the world survived and got liberated from him

Shows that disprove that......Code geass, Angel beats,Madoka magica, Mirai nikki, Devilman crybaby and grave of the fireflies.
There's some shows that just leave you with a bad taste in your mouth instead of actually being sad which they tried to go for and those are rightfully not popular.

Well.. actually popularity is depend on overall quality of the series and promotion. We don't know if a series will have happy ending or tragic ending, if they have good quality then there is probability they will become popular

Maybe devilamn isn't but the rest are famous.

just seems like people want more happy endings, personally you got to have a bad taste in your mouth every now and then.

i agree with it and everyone needs a change of genre.
