Why do you think anime got more popularity outside Japan?

Manga is very popular in Japan but outside Japan, anime is not popular. Why is that man? Do you think, it has something to do with cheap manga volumes?

I think manga is still popular outside of japan but not as popular since its more expensive and harder to find unless you buy it online.

It's really popular compared to 15 years ago.

Anime watchers are considered as geeks in Japan man.
It might be popular but it's still an outcast man

Subscriptions are equally good man. Crunchyroll subscription and even IP changers can do a lot

Being an otaku is what is looked down on. Not watching anime.

Watching anime is generally an otaku chore man.
It's been looked down by a lot of people

What burnsy said was pretty accurate, think of it like this playing video games, it isn't really looked down upon unless you're a no lifing addict and by looked down upon I mean by the average person.

I should probably gather more information man.
From what I know, people watch anime in Japan secretly to avoid the label like otaku and weaboo

For one it was easier to get anime here, plus with the biggest animation TV channel on the planet(Cartoon Network) airing Dragon Ball it was a big reason for the start of the medium's popularity. I guess Dragon Ball was an outlier, for years nothing came close in terms of popularity, except maybe Cowboy Bebop, FLCL, YYH, Naruto, Bleach, Pokemon which all incidentally aired on TV.
Even now it's not exactly easy to read legit licensed manga translated to English.

we don't get legit translations at all and other group translations are just as good.
it takes so much time for a manga to get officially translated

They interviewed only three people but it's good.
Thanks man. I don't think that's what people thinks most of the time @Risk
They believe that people who are obsessed but just watching anime people wouldn't become obsessed

He has lots of other interviews similar to this one and he usually just ask random people so you can get a good idea of what the average person thinks about them.

Viz and Kodansha have a good library. Especially Viz. you can usually expect a Shounen Jump or Shounen Magazine manga to get picked up and have a complete translation.

It's mostly thanks to Toonami back in the mid 90s that anime even got a foothold outside of Japan. Thanks to it me and many others are fans though I do agree that it should get more popularity.

most of the bl manga translations don't have a legit company like that.
i don't usually look for legit translations too but it's almost unbelievable to know that the manga wouldn't get dropped once it got picked.

I see well actually a lot of manga get dropped. Light Novels as well. Can't exactly single out any name now but I remember a lot of manga and LN's only getting partly translated.

that's the disappointing thing.
even other translation groups do that and people don't like partially translated manga and they would never know the ending that way.
