Why do people avoid popular anime?

I have seen many people avoiding most of the popular anime.
Is it because of the length? Or is it because of all the action?
 
I avoid the "popular anime of the season" if it's not that interesting to me, mostly for overhype from people, when things have cooled down i give it a try to see it with a more impartial eyes and not just caught up in the hype.
 
Some people are actual hipsters and hate anything just because it's popular. Most have other specific tastes.
 
Either they are snobs or they've seen enough of popular anime(shounen, fantasy, isekai, high school romance) and want to go into niche anime and there are plenty of those, especially OVA's from the 80's and the 90's.
I personally think people like them are in the minority and most people watch isekai or shounen and these people probably don't like both genre.
 
i don't think anyone avoids very popular anime
it's just a common misunderstanding. people always watch popular anime first
 
a lot of people hate falling in with the hype crowd. The anime could really be the best, but its so popular many will stay away to not get mixed into the crowd.
