Why do anime characters use flip phones more than smart phones?

They’re really not, I see them all the time. There are plenty of times where everyone has a smartphone, except one character. Usually they’re either trying to show that the character is behind the times, or their parents don’t trust them with a smartphone.

that's news to me
now i feel like i am behind the times lol without knowing much about these anime
