As i remember.. the mighty prince of all Saiyan want to have immortality, that's why he made a journey to planet earth and namek. But after namek saga he seems to forget about it, i wonder why is that? There are plenty peaceful time after namek saga so he can start gathering the dragon balls, and his wife is the creator of the legendary dragon radar so there is nothing to hold him back

He wanted strength to defeat frieza and after goku and trunks dealt with him he had no reason.
 
you only get one word unreasonable answers from him.
ignore him and he is the crazy short-tempered mod
may be he gave up on immortality
