so what is that rating for an anime?
8 - good anime
7 - decent anime
9 - excellent anime
10 - outstanding anime
what about you?

Nearly the same. except i'd put like 6 as a sort of bad one. I'm quite nice with my ratings
 
I always find it weird that 7’s and 8’s are vowed that low by people.

Also, 7 comes before 8, not after.

Only by idiots. 5 is average, and 6 is above average, and it goes up from there. Weabs and gamers are the only communities I’ve seen where 7 is a bad rating.

MAL’s full of idiots who don’t know how numbers work, hence why I said weabs and gamers are the only communities who think 7 is mediocre.

That’s because weabs, especially on MAL (read the reviews or the forums, and they think they’re all Roger Ebert or some other famous critic) are idiots who take themselves way too seriously.

In the music and film communities, they actually use all 10 numbers. The ratings don’t start at 7.

i agree that they won't start at 7.
but if a lot of people give bad rating to something, then that anime is not bad right?

Bad means it's below a 5. Also maybe you need to do some critical thinking on why people are giving it a certain rating. There are certain genres sites like MAL really dislike, and also a lot of people also don't realize that some shows have a niche audience.

You like yaoi and BL, would you take a website's ratings on those seriously if you know the site really hates those two?

i can't really answer that but i see your point.
and i don't know that mal dislikes genres. is that for real? all the genre anime got decent rating in mal as long as the story is good, from what i know.

Sometimes they hate certain shows. I've mentioned several times about their review bombing campaigns, especially on anything that temporarily beats FMAB at #1. It's a bit sus when a show reaches #1 and less than an hour later FMAB gets back to number 1, and the other show mysteriously has a ton of 1 star ratings.

MAL doesn't really care much for slice of life shows, and you'll see with the shows that have multiple seasons, that season 1 gets like 6's or whatever, but season 2 (despite not doing anything different) will magically have a higher rating because only the people who enjoyed season 1 bothered to watch season 2.

not all the shows can get high ratings, just because we like it grungie.
and i know you don't like boku no pico and it's a joke alright. but banana fish is not like that and yet people don't talk about how good it is

and i don't mind it too much and it's intense i admit it. but it's not for everyone.

and of course i think it's big. don't tell me when you want to check some anime info, you don't go to mal for it.
