What influenced you to watch Anime?

I returned back to MyAnimeForum, and I am wanting to start a discussion. What influenced you to watch Anime? Was it your friends or family and what age were you at the time?
 
It was my friends in grade school. Was invited to a anime/birthday combo party. Ate pizza, had soda and enjoyed watching Dragon Ball Z. I was 12 at the time, and about a year and a half older than the kids in my grade. I thought, hey wouldn't hurt to get away from the family for a day, to have fun. :D
 
Well, for the fact that I actually love anime from my childhood is something that I can't really explain and it's being the major influence for me when it comes to choosing to keep watching them till date.
 
I was into DBZ, Pokemon, Beyblade, Yu-Gi-Oh etc as a child and then one day my gf watched sword art online so i thought i would give anime a go... 3 years later i still love it
