It's different I don't think Shakra knows much about this world and he just goes by instincts of his dragon nature.

but he is so old and he doesn't have much to live and i feel bad for him but i am sure he will somehow make it alive with isaac

I didn't think he loved his kid so much that he would throw away his own life, to protect his son.
 
That's true
But when his own son's life is threatened we can't really predict those actions now can we?
