That's a little too far fetched.
I believe she was planning that all along. She was just buying time.

or she thought she wouldn't be able to escape as kendrick can't be controlled anymore.
 
Kendrick can never be truly controlled
But for Kris, it's a different thing always and I don't think it's easy for him too.
