I stumbled across this [table top] role playing game system while looking through Cyberpunk styled games, and this one caught my eye, obviously because of it's heavy anime influence (and it was recommended by the person writing the post, if you're into anime!). So, I purchased a copy. It's only like $12 on DriveThruRPG, and I have to say, so far, I'm pretty impressed with it.
Dice mechanics: Role over, dice pool, but not like insane dice pools that ShadowRun had. I think you're rolling up to five dice, but the dice could be any combination within a Dice set (d4, d6, d8, d10--I'll have to re-read that section to see if any other dice sizes are used). The game's got some Crunch, you're adding the values up, rather than counting the number of sixes, as example on a d6, and the mechanics feature Exploding dice. Rolling a 10 on a d10, you get to add 10 and re-roll, repeat if necessary! And that's not all. There's a Fate Scale, or something, that allows you to perform Criticals and stuff?
Lineages: These are your playable races. There are some familiar ones, like your Catgirl (named Bakeneko), and Kitsune, but of course, there's Human. In total, I think there's like 11 different races to choose from?
This game features Political Alignments. Although I've only skimmed the book so far, this seems to play an important role for your character's life choices, and can affect the Path (jobs) that you have available? Again, I need to do more reading.
Despite this game clearly falling within the Cyberpunk realm, it does support a variety of Magic types. Perhaps, I'll have a chance to read this section of the book today on my way to work.
The book is slightly over 300 pages, and is cleanly written featuring a two column page layout. The artwork is amazing too. I can't wait to dive into the various technologies that are offered for characters-- you know cybernetic implants, gizmos, and of course, weapons!
Finally, I checked out the Discord server for the game (directly linked in the PDF for our convenience), and the members there seem fairly welcoming. If you're into the Cyberpunk scene, give this game a looksy. (Remember, there's no space between the words New and Edo!) After I have a good understanding of the game, I might try running a campaign.
