I haven't read the manga but OPM is very big outside of japan I'd say its up there with attack on titan and dragon ball even people I know who are not anime fans have seen it.

it's a legend and these are better but they would never get that popularity.

if you like something then you have already set up your preferences in anime. that's identifying you as an anime fan
