So I'm still not sure about all this but the first compilation film of Made in Abyss announced this new movie, so chances are we won't be getting a new season anytime soon will instead be getting this movie. The second compilation movie releases this month as well, so this new film will probably release sometime this year.

Well, hopefully they would announce a new season soon.
I will be watching this movie but just a 2 hour movie, couldn't beat a 13 episodes anime.

Well at least the visuals will be several times better than a TV anime so I look forward to that.

This is really bad news. You know what other anime went down this path? Madoka magica with 2 recap movies and a sequel movie. I am having really bad feeling they'll end made in abyss something like that.
This doesn't even make sense. I know there's supposed to be another character introduced and what about finding riko's mother and comming back up out of the abyss and stuff. How will they fit all that and an ending worthy of the anime in a freakin movie?

It hasn't been mentioned that this is the last chapter of the story so I'm betting it's just what happens in the fifth/sixth layer and another season/movie will be made regarding the ending.

Not to mention because it's a movie we'll have to wait months after it's released before we can watch it.

Manga being ongoing is the only thing guaranteeing this isn't the end. I don't think movies can be made sequels without compromising something.

Well, if there is a sequel, I believe it would have had a very good animation too.
It's just that an anime season will be able to have at least 260 minutes but a movie can have 120 minutes at most :(

Movies generally have a lot lot better visuals just because they are made for the big screen, plus it's less screen-time so less number of things to work on.
I do want a sequel more obviously, but it's not happening right now.

I see.
Well, that makes more sense :D I prefer the story and length and for that reason, this news is very disappointing.

Not sure if I heard of this series, but must be doing well to get a movie. I'll be sure to check it out sooner or later.

It has a dub, and I'm surprised you haven't heard of it considering it was pretty popular around the end of its run in 2017 due to its sheer quality.
