I believe yagami light is not mature enough at first.
He tried to kill Lind l tayler because that guy called him evil. If he hasn't done that, no one would have suspected him.

That's true though. I didn't expect he would actually call himself as god out of nowhere.
 
I won't called Light childish. I can understand he feel offended by Lind L Taylor, it is called 'to defend what we think is right', he got his consequences from killing him on the spot but it's okay

He was still a student after all, at the beginning of the series.
 
he started something out of boredom.
you can't do much about it and he is always like that. if he were not a highschool student at first, he might not have used death note
