Kids as main protagonist

Rewatching Gundam Wing

I was in episodes 5 right now, still long way to go. Okay i'll get this straight to the point.. so, the rebel faction from space colony send kids (main protagonists) as terrorist fighter to earth and they destroy facilities and killing people (soldier) left and right. How's that sounds to you?

I mean.. come on, 14 years old kids piloting giant robot fighting, killing and destroying things? I know that there's actually kid soldier somewhere out there, but it's more appropriate if they write the main protagonists as 30 years old tough guy. What's wrong with 30 years old guy waging a war? They made kids doing this killing and destroying for the sake of 'oh let's make those main protagonist kids so it's more relatable to the audiences' lol

Oh yea.. before i go on with this i want to mention that something like this also happened in other series like Full Metal Panic, Macross original, the main protagonist is teenager soldier lol

Okay back to main topic.. so just because your audiences is kids then the main protagonist should be kids too? Just stop this bullshit, manga and anime creator must throw this format away. Look at what american comic book like Marvel and DC, they create adults main protagonist like Batman, Superman, Spiderman, Wolverine but kids also love them..

Only few series makes adults as main protagonist in manga and anime, and i talk about manga and anime as general, all genres and all demogeaphies. Samurai X, City Hunter, Hokuto no ken are few series i remember right now, well.. Goku growing up, but the author didnt give a shit about that, they make him childish so kids still can relate with him lol. And this.. also happened in video games.. most main protagonist i remember.. Cloud, Squall, Zidane, Fei, Suikoden's main characters, Star Ocean's main characters are all teenagers, only Metal Gears series and Persona Eternal Punishment use adults as main protagonist

Not sure why Japanese kinda allergic to write adults as main protagonist, is this just for the sake of 'let's make the main protagonist relatable to the audiences' or there is another reasons
 
Look at any Magical Girl anime/manga. Most protagonists are like 8, 10, maybe 14 years old. While I'm also a little pushed backward from watching literal children wage wars, I also remember that this is pure imagination. I remember what I was doing as a young kid, the adventures I thought I'd one day go through-- you know, stuff like saving the world. And I think this is where child protagonistic war heroes come from. That childlike dream of adventure, that we later find out as adults is actually nothing like a dream, it's horrible. I also think that creators are attempting to relive their childhoods through their fictional characters.
 
i think kids usually awake to relate to other children and they think adult world is complex.
but you are right as long as it's aye appropriate the protagonists shouldn't have to be kids

Kid's dream huh.. well i guess there's some truth about that, we all wants to become anything like adventurer, pilot, pirate, soldier when we're kids lol

It's about war angel, and in the series they are actually killing people like it's just nothing

Totally. Nobody EVER talks about... yeah, when I grow up, I want to be the receptionist at my doctors office, or the lunch lady at school...Those jobs are boring!
 
I am not sure why it's such a common trope when it comes to anime but almost every single anime I've enjoyed has had teenagers as the main protagonists. I know the age of consent is different in Japan and maybe that plays a role on why so many young protagonists exist. Maybe they view characters who are at least 14 to be mature enough to wage war, or be superheroes. Heck with Pokemon the trainers are even younger and they start their journey at the age of 10. When I was a kid watching the show it didn't bother me because I didn't really understand it, but when I got older I always questioned why trainers were able to roam the world at such a young age lol.
