Cannot recommend this enough if you like murder mysteries or detective work in any form of media. There is also so much more than just the murder mysteries though, like free roam time, side plot elements, finding a potential traitor among you, unraveling the deeper mystery of how and why they're here, the character development and the whole Hope vs Despair theme of the story etc. Keeps you entertained from start to finish. Although the objectively best parts of the game are of course the class trials where you use your clues, logic and everything you might have to find the killer. These are never obvious as you'll have to see through lies, and deceptions with potential killer becoming the victim, murders designed to look like suicides, suicides designed to look like murders, virtual world murders, murders where the killer themself don't know they're the blackned etc etc. Not one of the 18 trials I played felt similar. You'll never guess the whole trial's outcome and method when you just start because it's always that complex. Some of them blew my mind and are unforgettable moments of brilliance.
That along with a hype as fuck soundtrack in every game especially 2 and 3 and the dub sounding pretty much perfect means this game is a treat for your ears too.
There's so man good tracks but here's 2 to sell you on it

I'd score DR1:Trigger happy havoc 9/10, DR2 Goodbye despair 9.5/10 and the third game a 7.5 because the game even though it's better in a lot of aspects I hated the ending of it and that's really important for me (trials are still on par).
And no I don't consider watching the anime a substitute for playing as this is completely different when you're the one solving the case.
There are some reasons you might not like such a game, you don't like reading and point and click adventures, you don't like the characters, the silliness of a lot of things, the pink blood, you don't like to think etc so It's possible not everyone would like it but if you do you'll thank me soon enough.
