It really depends on licensing, yeah. I'll say that while downloading copyrighted material is largely not recommended, it doesn't necessarily mean that you'll have law authorities banging on your door at two in the morning, already with a pair of handcuffs to greet you upon your attendance. Piracy is a very double-edged sword, and it depends on how you define what is good and what is bad. For me, I feel like a lot of major companies don't care about their customers, and thus they charge bogus prices for very basic CDs and DVDs. If you want to save the entertainment industry, then there needs to be some sort of action taken to prevent greedy companies from running to the bank with whatever you could cough up.
Things aren't fair in this world, and it isn't just the downloaders at fault. Like I said, if companies truly cared about their customers, then they wouldn't be overpricing their merchandise. That's why a lot of people have turned to Netflix and other streaming services to save on money. They're only paying because they don't want to sit in jail. It's ridiculous.
