How can a software download stop in the middle?

The connection never got interrupted and I am able to access other pages just fine too.
Is it possible for a website to break a connection? My download stops in the middle and it never progresses no matter how long I wait
 
Try to download it again.
Once the download starts unless an interruption occurs, download wouldn't be paused.

Sometimes it's really annoying to download it again.

That can happen too.
I was positive that this connection has been interrupted somehow.
