Well it kind of makes sense keeping up with an anime from the very beginning would be easy to keep up with just watch the newest season or what ever. I guess its just confusing since MAL doesn't list in airing order. But I always just watch in airing order now since there really is no reason to watch in any other order because like I said before if you started a series from the start you're not really gonna wait years just to watch it in some slightly better order.
Chronological order is something idiotic butted in by source material purists imo. Like asking people to watch Kizu before Bake is the epitome of stupidity, especially since Kizu is a lot more action packed and faster paced so that'll setup wrong expectations for the rest of the series. Even more ridiculous is asking people to watch chunks of episodes in different seasons one after the other to fit the order chronologically. I believe arcs in Monogatari SS take place during various months so I remember these purists asking people to watch Neko: Kuro, Koi, etc at different chunks instead of one after the other. Same with Koyomimonogatari.
For me broadcast order is always superior.
There is actually. Quality of a show can improve a lot and make the starting look quite bad.And this is the case with fate stay night. And it's only made more complicated by the fact that there are alternate timelines and prequels coming after sequels. And people who've watched the whole thing can be correct to tell you to skip certain ones and watch in a better order for better viewing experience. I mean I forgot to add index and railgun on the list but that was an anime we went into knowing nothing and ended up dropping because it was "bad" but looking at the guide, we're supposed to watch railgun first which is obviously not release order. I'll be going back to that anime eventually with this knowledge.
Monegatari is one thing. It has pretty consistent quality through and release order is easily the best way to watch. But each show is it's own separate beast. You have to take into consideration, quality across the series, viewing experience, will it make sense, would they drop a show if you made people watch some really boring part of the series first. After watching the kara no kyoukai movies 3 times already I have come to the conclusion if you try watching movie 1 first you're gonna have 0 clue about anything they're talking about, why anyone is doing what they're doing, who they are, what the overall plot even is and the point of the whole movie because it's so badly made for a first time viewer and it almost assumes you've read the whole light novel series. That's why I know so many people who've just dropped it after the first movie. Chronological makes the series lose some of it's charm because of the nature of the series but being able to enjoy all the movies without going "wtf is going on" is a good enough reason for me to recommend chronological order for this. Similarly, fate series also had a different issue with a different watch order(s) to remedy it.
Even orders which are not chronological or release, but instead community agreed have a lot of merit if you want to avoid, bad, unnecessary, non cannon stuff or just give you a better viewing example. Look above at the reply I made to risk about the index/railgun series. We went in blind and ended up all dropping it but if we had known a better it could easily have been a fun show to watch.
I almost always will watch in release order first but during rewatches, I will experiment with chronological and any other order (could even be my own). So yeah I don't think it's idiotic at all.
Risk said:I understand that but it is hard to trust some peoples opinion on how I should watch something and what order, I've had so many people tell me don't watch such and such because its bad and then I loved or or skip this season or this episode because its bad but I'd rather make that judgement for my self. As for index and railgun it is really tricky since I've seen them all. I know they say watch railgun first but then you're not introduced to some of the main characters although they rarely appear in railgun. I do like railgun more but its is more of a slice of life for most of it compared to index which could put some people off if they came here looking for something else. But if I was to go back I'd probably watch railgun first.
BurnsyCEO said:I think making that judgement on who's advice to listen to is on you. There will be plenty of people who will share similar opinions. There's really only a handful of anime that you'd watch that are as convoluted as the ones above so it's not a big deal anyway.
And as long as railgun isn't bad like how mediocre index was, it wouldn't be a big deal.

Risk said:Yes with railgun half of both seasons are filler but they're still enjoyable enough.

Movie 1 and 2 are recaps and 3 is sequel.
MadaraUchiha said:I don't mind if things are fragmented and if they come together at the end but I also don't like it if the fragmented stuff bore me to hell, I also want the means to be enjoyable. Films like Memento or The Sixth Sense for example are good throughout, the novelty/gimmick just make them better. Same thing with Durarara or Baccano.
Yeah I'll definitely be watching Garden of Sinners so yeah sure. Boogiepop though still not sure about it.
No not Fate itself I meant the Fate route. The original F/SN. Every problem arises because people don't like that anime right.
MadaraUchiha said:And about Index is it true that only the first few arcs are boring? I mean usually when people people say something gets better it's because they actually liked it in the first place and they never found it boring.
Risk said:They were kinda slow and setting everything up I can get how people got bored. I don't really like saying shows get better because its more of just not being into it at the start. But like most shows the longer you watch the more you get into it so I guess you could say it gets better.
