Voice actors read text. Of course, sometimes they do vocals too, but that is not the main part of the job.That is kinda amazing that you are new to voice acting world. Almost all anime fans I know have favorite voice actors/actresses, some have favorite dubbing studios. In US voice actors are basically anime starts, since they are only people involved in the production who actually live there and speak English. Actors like Crispin Freeman and Johnny Yong Bosch are pretty much celebrities, people stay in line for their autographs and such.
If you starts looking through the credits and notice people whose voice performances you liked, you'll start enjoying your anime even more, believe me =)

Crispin Freeman played Itachi from Naruto, Alucard from Hellsing, Zelgadis from Slayers, Kyon from Melancholy of Haruhi, ton of other stuff.
Johnny Yong Bosch voiced Ichigo from Bleach, Light from Death Note, Lelouch from Code Geass, lots of other roles.
