DVDs or streaming?

They both have their own unique strengths. I like collecting things so having DVDs is nice. But streaming is just so much easier

I like streaming but have concerns about digital ownership. DVDs don't just disappear if the company putting them out goes under.

That’s why I tend to go and buy hard copies of my favorites. You can say the same for digital copies as well. If you take care of your physical or digital media, your stuff will last ages, even after the streaming service pulls it off.

I still have songs I bought on iTunes 10+ years ago that no longer exist on their service, but I still have the files.

Once it doesn't stick a lot streaming...cancels out having to deal with scratches and being extra careful to keep in good condition. Lets be honest, most of us aren't gona watch some of these more than once so streaming is better provided internet is available

I mean, it’s not hard to keep a DVD in good condition, and Blu-ray’s are harder to scratch.

I love when new technology comes out and people pretend the predecessor delicate piece of glass that’ll break from looking at it wrong.

It is though when you have kids around...even adults sometime tend to handle them badly

Lol I like to find out about new tech and learn about it but I just find that streaming once internet is available is simplest right now

It's not the technology's fault that people are too dumb to keep things out of the reach of children, or know that cases exist for a reason (or use a binder). It's not like the tape days where your VCR or tape player will eat your tape for randomly no reason. I have CD's that are pushing 40 years old and they still function.

You can watch your shows however you want, but acting like it's a fine art to take care of a disc is just misleading.

Well you were complaining about it being a hassle to be “extra careful” with handling discs.

I wasn't complaining, was just saying that it scratches easily but I don't know much about blu ray as I haven't had a chance to interact with it so I wouldn't know how durable it is or isnt

DVD’s really don’t scratch that easily. That’s why I said you’re making it sound more fragile than it actually is. You’d be surprised at seeing scratches on discs and they still work perfectly fine.

True but a lot of companies like amazon and FUNimation say you have purchased the content but won't let you download it. So do you really own it?

That’s if you’re trying to re-download it. If it’s been downloaded, they can’t do anything about it. That’s why I mentioned the stuff I downloaded on iTunes that no longer exist there, but since I have the files, they can’t take it from me like streaming services do.
