Depends on the type of server.
If you take a dedicated server, it'll cost a lot (and having a dedi just for a Mastodon instance is rather overkill).
If you take a VPS, it could be quite affordable depending on the company you put it in.
You can put it on a server at your own home, but that'll cost electricity. And your internet connection could be unstable if your ISP sucks.
I only don't think it won't be possible on a shared hosting, since setting it up requires you to use a good number of command line tools.

I am using command line stuff as well. Normally to check the files, permissions and such. We don't who shell script but I know the basics of that as well

Wait...a sec...dedicated server is way more expensive than a VPS or shared.
So...now I am confused. You don't have to spend a lot if you opt for a dedicated server?
That doesn't make any sense to me.

Dedicated servers are way more expensive, and that's what I already said and meant.
What I meant is that "it'll" and "it won't" are the exact opposites of each other (I marked the corrected word as bold in the original post for a reason).
