Do you think people lose the right to criticize an anime if they pirated it ?

What do you guys think about it?
I am sure many of us would disagree but let's try to think of it from animators view.

I don’t see why they can’t. Regardless of the legality, what changed in the experience.

Also what about people who don’t have the legal means of watching a show?

it doesn't really matter at all
pirating is bad but the content is not available in all the countries like people said above.

Piracy’s really not that bad, despite what the bigwigs in the industry say. A lot of lesser known series got more exposure and popularity through it.

There are two main types of pirates:
1: they pirated it, fell in love, then went out and bought it (if they can)
2: they were never going to buy it in the first place.

The first type grows the fandom, and the second one isn’t a lost sale. If they couldn’t pirate it, they were never going to buy it in the first place.

I don't think it's really relevant, but even so a lot of people simply don't have the means to access it legally. Grungie is also right in saying piracy doesn't hurt the IP holders as much as they let on.

that's true and i do feel like if we stop this pirating completely then it would be a disaster and anime popularity will go down

I think it’d hurt the lesser known stuff more than the popular stuff.

lol everything will lose it's popularity
i am sure even the mainstream anime will get affected and most of the people stream it

Not really, it’ll only hurt the lesser known stuff. The stuff already popular already have a commercial foothold, so they’re going to make a ton of money regardless. Streaming also isn’t illegal by default.

Stopping piracy of the popular stuff mostly only hurts the people who weren’t going to buy it or watch it legally in the first place.

They've still watched the anime so they still have an opinion. i want to watch Hell Girl but it isn't available anywhere for legally me apart from the 4th season. If i stream the first 3 seasons, i'll still be able to give my opinion on it

that's cool gem
but usually if they like it people will need to contribute to it.
I watched Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball GT on a 3rd party site. To buy all the DVD's would cost me hundreds. And i only have access to Super legally

I'm guessing those aren't available on Netflix or whatever in the UK?

that's cool and you are right
they need to centralize the entire anime at one place or it could be very expensive to watch them legally.

Not those ones, no. Only Super is available on Crunchyroll, Netflix and Funimation

Ouch that sucks, sucks how shows as big as that aren’t available on Netflix there. Especially Funimation, they own the friggen rights to the show.
