I have been wondering about this. There are some anime I dislike and they are just not for me. However, I don't go out of my way to criticize them to no end.

I think people go out of their way because they feel slighted over the show. Usually because it didn’t turn out the way they wanted, either through changes in story development, or the hype didn’t live up to their expectations.
The popularity also adds to their hatred as well. This show sucks, how dare other people enjoy this!
Nobody really goes out of their way to trash talk a show nobody is talking about. Not enough attention to be had.

Depends on the series fans, some can be extremely toxic.

There is no way everyone is going to like a particular anime. Just know that there are going to be some criticism which is also normal.
