Do you think airheaded characters in anime are cute?

That's a no for me and even now I can't stand to watch that main lead in K-ON and she even makes her younger sister to take care of her.
I don't think it's cute at all. What about you?

The character has to already be cute
Well, people naturally got a soft spot for opposite gender but I think it's being overrated and bring overused in anime. I don't see many airheaded non comic male anime charcters

It’s definitely more of a female personality type. They usually make the male characters actually dumb. Just look at most battle anime protagonists.

Isnt that kinda annoying? But if she looks cute then maybe it's not that bad

Yes it is. However everyone thinks she is cute and her dependency is even cuter to them.
I don't think it's cute as I can't imagine taking care is such an annoying character irl

There are such characters here and there and people still like them because they look good. Like Cavendish in One piece.

So what’s your complaint then? They’re overusing the trope because people love it.

Overuse is the right word, author and editor tend to follow the formula to get attention and market share, too afraid to break the pattern i guess
I can see that, I’m just not a fan of “I don’t like this so it’s overrated” argument, and the female users here are throwing a feminist twist to their argument when they’re predominantly watching anime targeted at a male audience and are upset it’s not catering to adult women.

I didn't think of it that way.
TBH I was sure that they must be using this cliche stuff to attract more audience as the general public dislike it and would watch it, to criticise it later

That makes no sense. The entertainment industry is out to make money, so if they see something that works, they milk it. It makes no sense to overuse a trope as benign as an air headed character just to piss people off.

Sometimes, animators choose something that's bad precisely to attract more attention.
Even bad attraction is also public's attention

That’s if they go with a big gimmick, like Redo of Healer’s obsession with rape. An air headed character is just a trope they’re using because it’s a popular character trope.
