Do you get the feeling that majority of the anime fandom is very close minded?

It's just a question and it's not aimed at anyone.
So do you all feel that most of the anime fans are that way?

Most fandoms are indeed pretty close minded, but I would consider anime fandom to be one of the worst. At least that was my experience with it on Tumblr years ago, but I doubt things have really changed lol

tbh Tumblr's never been that great of a community.

One super annoying aspect of the anime community is when gatekeepers keep moving the goalpost the more popular a series gets, or just anime in general. The gatekeeper will always be a bigger fan than you are no matter how much "street cred" you have.

Though a lot of more niche fandoms do tend to have those types of gatekeepers. I'm a big punk fan, and I do love seeing some guy bragging:

"I've been going to shows since 1995, so I know what I'm talking about".

"Well I started in the 80's and you're full of it"

"You clearly don't know what you're talking about, sure you started before I did, but I can guarantee I've been to 9000X more shows than you have and have had a studded belt and mohawk before you did"

Sadly the real debates are dumber than my example.

lol don't say that
they are all coming out of their shells and they are liking the newer versions more and more.
i am sure the community is not that bad lol

It's a close minded community and you can't do much about it
People should try to respect others but they all care about their favourite anime and cuss at others opinions

I think the teenage shounen action audience is. But the older people aren't any more than normal people. But the normal person s pretty close minded by default so yes???

lol that's news to me
but in that case, all people in this words are just plain old closed minded lol

I kind of agree with the battle anime community. Part of the community is filled with people who got into anime 15 years ago and only care about the shows they saw back then.

The other part are what I call “reverse snobs” where they only watch the most popular shows, and if the show isn’t popular enough to have merch at stores normies shop at, clearly it’s not worth watching.

You’d be surprised at how much of MAL’s top 20 most popular shows are unheard of in the battle anime community.

I’m talking about the stuff you can buy at places like Hot Topic, Game Stop, Walmart, and Target. Since you can buy MHA merch at Game Stop, clearly it’s a good show, but Konosuba? What’s that? I can’t get an Aqua shirt at Target, must not be a good show.

I’ve stumbled across quite a few anime communities that were filled entirely by battle anime fans that all had the mindset of “if I’ve never heard of it, it’s obviously crap”.

It’s honestly really baffling when you bring up shows that are really popular on Crunchyroll and MAL, or other communities, but if you bring them up on to a battle anime community, you might as well have made up a title by pulling them out of a hat.

Battle anime is what people tend to call shonen.

Oh yeah. Great example of a closed minded community, was a good portion of the Dragon Ball community. When Dragon Ball GT came out, plenty of people (including myself), considered it as a pretty good ending series to Dragon Ball Z; as it was authorized by Toriyama, even though he didn't actually take part of the making of it. It included great animation quality, continued the characters as they were up to that point, and had some interesting plots on how to finalize ending the Dragon Ball Genre.

But ofcourse there was plenty of backlash from other portions of the community. Eventually Toriyama decided to get back into the show, helped restart it with some movies, and eventually got around to developing the idea of running Dragon Ball Super, which injects itself as a side anime story, to the actual storyline.

I have never had that feeling as of yet. I do watch Animes now and then but never really experienced that.

Probably haven't been introduced to the right crowd that watches Anime with as much dedication as some of these shows that gain a big following.
