Do you care at all about canon fodder in anime?

they are just pawns to make the others powerful and can be used as stepping stones. would you want them to get their own happy ending?

I have mixed feelings regarding this man.
Sure enough there are many such characters but if they are insignificant, then I wouldn't want to care much about it
