Do anime characters sharing your nationality make them more relatable to you?

Do you agree that they are relatable to you just because you share the same nationality as them?

people do like them but i am sure it doesn't make much difference to me as i don't see any characters having my build and coloring.

Lol, I'm black but most of the animé characters i love aren't even blacks. It centres to natural like or preference, and not nationality nor colour that attracts.
