Divali a holiday/not?

i don't know about this. you said holidays, how many holidays do you get for this festival? do you do anything special for this day. i never saw any calendars with this holiday

It's called Diwali or Deepavali here.
It's a celebration for the death of a Rakhshasa. People usually celebrate it with fireworks.
There is a story behind it :D

Afraid I have never heard of Divali or ever seen it on a calendar before. What does it celebrate?

Well it is called deepavali also but it's a hindu celebration that marks the return of lord ram from exile and also the celebration of mother lakshmi as well as good over evil. Short version

It's also known as Deepavali and celebrates good over evil and a few hindu gods and goddesses. We get a holiday on the day of the festival and there is grand celebration all over. People light deeyas and dress up and do prayers and all sorts of other fun stuff.

Yep that's also one of the stories behind it. Do you celebrate?

I do celebrate but now, not all that much.
We do have firecrackers but we used to have a ton back in the years.

Um....my memory isn't what it used to be....but isn't there a story about Kali taking down some rakshasa on that day?
I know that it is one of the stories but I don't remember the occasion at all.
@MadaraUchiha  tagging you as you might have a better idea kiddo.

Ok cool yes celebrations have become smaller with the time but I still enjoy it. Do you like lighting deeyas? I just love walking around and looking at all the beautiful designs and stuff. One year my brothers and neighbours lit torches along the roadsides in bamboos, it was so lovely

lol there are so many stories associated with this festival, it's hard to know for sure right? lol I have also heard of that story, if I'm not mistaken this was the story of Durga Mata's birth so to speak. I guess the one thing all stories have in common is that light overcomes dark and good overcomes evil.

I do like them and we don't always do pooja.
We celebrate by using firecrackers and nothing more, most of the days.

Oh I see. If I don't at least light a deeya in front of my picture of Lakshmi Mata on the day I don't feel like it's Divali. I like firecrackers but not the extra noisey ones

My bad.
That was satyabhama taking down the narakasura.
Guess my knowledge is fading...well, not that I care anymore.

Because I have stopped believing in god altogether.
Well, I don't think, I am a devotee anymore.

I know how you feel trust me. I hope that you will change your mind though

Well, I don't think I could ever trust god again.
Hmm....but that's just how it is for me.
